The Story of Nisa Nature
Nisa Nature’s love and respect for nature began early with the good
influence of her parents. Both were trained as botanists, and her
father became a microbiologist. Nisa learned the names of the plants
and animals that grew in Maryland and Pennsylvania, especially the
birds that her father loved.

The Purpose of Nisa
Nature's Adventures
The purpose of Nisa Nature’s Adventures is to remind
participants of their oneness with the natural world through
joyful and creative experiences, thus encouraging the natural
interest in caring for ourselves and our planet Earth in a
balanced way. |
When her family moved to Tennessee near the Smoky
Mountains, her mother especially encouraged hikes into the
mountains with their fragrant pines and cascading streams
and waterfalls.
Nature inspired Nisa's first artistic love of poetry, which she
majored in at Oberlin College, and later, in graduate school, nature
inspired her dances. After graduating under the tutelage of Maida
Withers at G.W.U., Nisa used her dance and music knowledge to
perform in children’s theater, including the Adventure Theatre,
Library Theatre, and the National Park Service. Meanwhile, she had
gotten married, and began teaching her own three children about the
special gifts of the animals and plants.
Nisa honors teachers from Sun Bear’s Native American
teachers—Grandfather Bear Heart and Wind Daughter—whose vision
quests, medicine wheels, allowed her and her family to experience
deeper oneness with nature, eventually leading to the creation of
her interactive children’s musical: Nisa Nature’s Adventures. She
also thanks Mara Freeman, whose profound spiritual journey to the
ancient Avalon sites in England sparked Nisa’s Nature Healing Songs
to easily come through.

Utilizing all the senses, and thus increasing synapse
connections in the brain, Nisa Nature facilitates movement,
song, drumming, rattling, drawing, painting, journaling, and
discussion so that each person can experience his/her unique
connection with the Natural World. Nature facts, eco-tips,
and indigenous traditions from the cultures of North and
South America, and the ancient Vedic culture of India may
inform each session. Themes may also be derived from the
animal, plant, and mineral life of other places around the
Earth, or on the nature of our solar system or galaxy.
For a list of Discovery sessions that may run from 45
minutes to 1 1/2 hours, depending on the age of participants
(good for ages 3 and up), please click
